WynnWood’s forestry staff is responsible for the forest management and supervision of operations on tenure lands as well and the procurement of timber into the WynnWood Mill.

WynnWood holds a renewable Forest Licence A20214 within the Kootenay Lake Timber Supply Area. F.L. A20214 which currently has an allowable annual cut (AAC) of 65,461 m3 per year. The licensed area of operation is located along the east shore of Kootenay Lake on the westernmost slopes of the Purcell Mountain Range, see map. The Purcell’s represent some of the oldest mountains in British Columbia formed 540-2500 million years ago

We rely on at least 70 independent logging contractors for the planning, harvesting, trucking and reforestation of timberlands under WynnWood’s tenure. Our trusted logging contractors are an integral part of our team.

The forests in our area are known as the “Kootenay Mix”, and may include; lodgepole pine, ponderosa pine, western white pine, whitebark pine, Engelmann spruce, western larch, Douglas-fir, western redcedar, sub-alpine fir, grand fir, western hemlock, paper birch, trembling aspen, and black cottonwood. This diversity results in forests that are very resilient to pests and disease.

WynnWood purchases a large component of the timber processed at the mill on the open market. Our suppliers range from small private landowners to large timber sales sold through British Columbia Timber Sales (BCTS) – Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. www.for.gov.bc.ca/bcts/areas/tko.htm
